Internships Students
The goal of the internship program this year was to place students in internship sites where they could experience one of their career interests. The 2005–2006 Internship Program provided approximately 100 students with hands-on career experiences and involved 40–60 students per semester. Students participating in the program are given the opportunity to discover whether they have the foundational skills necessary for success after graduation. They spend a minimum of 78 hours at their internship site and receive academic credit for their experiences. Internships are both paid and unpaid experiences. A few internship placements this year, as well as last year, resulted in students acquiring part-time jobs at their internship sites.
Students involved in the Internship program have commented that, “I have learned a significant amount about possible careers for myself because I learned I want to work directly with people.” Other students stated: “My internship gave me more confidence.” “I learned to work with people from different backgrounds and cultures.” “I am proud of the new skills I have learned.”.
The importance of the Internship Program is best voiced by the students themselves:
